VSBA Art Contest Winner

In an inspiring display of creativity and talent, Tappahannock Elementary School has been bought into the spotlight, thanks to the remarkable achievement of one of its young talents, Kannon West. Kannon's earned him the prestigious first-place honor at the 2024 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Eastern Regional Art Contest held on March 5, 2024. This accolade is not just a personal victory for Kannon but a historic moment for Tappahannock Elementary School, marking the first time it has been recognized with a first-place selection in this annual event.

The VSBA Art Contest showcases the artistic talents of Virginia’s public school students across elementary, middle, and high school levels. Each year, school board members from the region come together to select winners from a pool of entries that represent the best of each school division. The contest, which began in 1989, aims to highlight and promote the artistic capabilities of students, with the winning art pieces being framed and displayed at the VSBA offices in Charlottesville.

Kannon West's achievement is a testament to the nurturing environment and quality education provided by Tappahannock Elementary School and the dedicated guidance of Ms. Erin Lanphear, who has been instrumental in fostering Kannon’s artistic abilities.

As we celebrate Kannon’s success, we also recognize and thank Ms. Lanphear for her commitment and passion for inspiring our children. Her influence has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in reaching this milestone, and her efforts are greatly appreciated by the entire Tappahannock Elementary community.

Congratulations to Kannon West on this remarkable achievement. Tappahannock Elementary School looks forward to nurturing more young talents and celebrating more successes in the years to come.
